Police Barricade In Occupy Wall Street Protesters (NYC)

Uploaded by on Oct 6, 2011

October 5th, 2011. Police barricaded in protesters to shouts of; "remain calm!" and "don't be afraid!" from fellow protesters.

I was briefly caught with the protest march while getting footage. When I asked if I could cross the street (I'd been trying to stay ahead of the protest to get footage) the police told me emphatically no - i could not. Everyone caught on the march side of the barricade was a potential target. Everyone caught on the other side was allowed to go their own way.

This was all part of police tactics to keep protesters away from City Hall which was across the street. For the few blocks when we were passing by City Hall, the situation was strained and tense. The threat of potential violence and chaos hung thickly in the air.

Each metallic clang of a barricade being slammed down to connect up with another barricade increased the tension and fear of the crowd.

Occupy Wall Street march coordinators did an excellent job of fighting the rising swell of panic and keeping the situation under control.
