Dear Friends,
The 5th Annual New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness LOBBY DAY is on Wednesday, January 26, 2011!
During the 2011 legislative session, legislators will need to close a huge budget shortfall - possibly as much as $400 million.... We need to let our legislators know that they need to protect programs and services - such as Medicaid, General Assistance, TANF, homeless assistance services - that help people obtain and remain in housing.
Staff, volunteers, clients & board members are all invited to participate in Lobby Day. We will prepare you for Lobby Day by providing a voluntary training prior to Lobby Day, providing you with fact sheets and talking points to distribute to legislators, assigning you to a team with an experienced team captain, and assigning your team specific legislators to talk with. We'll also have a breakfast on January 26th where we will train you on how to lobby, educate you on the NMCEH legislative priorities and answer your questions.
The agenda for Lobby Day on January 26th will be:
8:00am - 8:45am: Breakfast at the Inn of the Governors (within walking distance of the Capitol)
8:45am - 9:15am: Overview of how to lobby & NMCEH legislative priorities (at the Inn of the Governors)
9:15am: Walk up to Capitol
9:30am - 12pm: Lobbying
12pm - 12:30pm: Check-out & debrief
For those in Albuquerque, the Albuquerque Rescue Mission will provide a school bus to transport folks to Santa Fe and back. You might also want to consider the Rail Runner; the schedule can be found at: http://nmrailrunner.com/sc hedule.asp
I need to know by Friday, January 21st:
1) The number of people from your organization who will be attending Lobby Day, including the breakfast training
2) The number of people from your organization who will be taking the bus from Albuquerque
You can RSVP to me either via email at Lisa-H [at] nmceh [dot] org or via phone at (505) 217-9570.
Thanks!
